You can add an AI chatbot to Wix in about three minutes using Wix's Custom code feature. The chatbot answers your visitors from your own documents (FAQ, services, prices and policies) and appears as a bubble on every page. This guide covers the site-wide install, an inline chat on one page, and what to do if your Wix plan doesn't include custom code.

What do you need before you start?

  • A Wix premium plan with a connected domain. Wix requires this for site-wide custom code.
  • Your documents or text you can paste: FAQ, services, opening hours, prices, policies.
  • A free InstantKnowledgeBot account: sign up and confirm the 6-digit code.

Step 1: How do you create the chatbot?

  1. In InstantKnowledgeBot, click New bot.
  2. Choose a template for your industry, or start blank. Restaurants, gyms, clinics, real estate agencies and more have ready-made templates; see the templates page.
  3. Add knowledge: import your site from its URL, upload files (PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown, CSV, HTML or JSON) or paste text. If an imported page comes back empty (some pages only show their text after JavaScript runs), copy the text of that page in instead.
  4. Set the bot's name, accent color and welcome message.
  5. Test in the Test tab.

Step 2: How do you copy the snippet?

In the bot's Embed & share tab, choose Chat bubble and copy:

<script src="https://instantknowledgebot.com/widget.js" data-bot="YOUR_BOT_ID" defer></script>

Step 3: How do you add custom code in Wix?

  1. Go to your Wix site dashboard.
  2. Open Settings, then find Custom code (listed under Advanced, or Development & integrations, depending on your dashboard version).
  3. Click + Add Custom Code.
  4. Paste the snippet into the code box.
  5. Give it a name, such as "AI chatbot".
  6. Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages (and Load code once, if offered).
  7. Under Place Code in, choose Body - end.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. Publish your site.

Open your live site and refresh. The chat bubble appears in the bottom corner. Custom code doesn't run in the Wix Editor preview, so always check the published site.

How do you embed the chat inside one Wix page?

To put the chat inline, for example on a "Help" or "Contact" page:

  1. In InstantKnowledgeBot's Embed & share tab, copy the Inline iframe code.
  2. In the Wix Editor, open the page and click Add Elements (+) → Embed Code → Embed HTML.
  3. Click Enter Code, choose Code, and paste the iframe code. Alternatively choose Website address and paste the bot's share link.
  4. Resize the element so the chat has room: at least 600 pixels tall works well.
  5. Publish.

Details on sizing and share links: embed a chatbot with an iframe or share link.

What if your Wix plan doesn't support custom code?

You can still use the chatbot:

  • Link to it. Every bot has a full-page share link. Add a button such as "Ask our assistant" that opens the link.
  • Print the QR code for in-person customers, from the Embed & share tab.
  • Upgrade later and add the site-wide bubble in a few minutes.

How do you fix common Wix problems?

ProblemFix
No bubble on the live siteCheck the code is set to All pages and Body - end, and that you published after adding it.
No bubble in the EditorExpected: custom code only runs on the published site.
Two chat launchers overlapMove ours with data-position="left" in the snippet, or set Widget position to Left in the bot's settings.
Inline chat is cut offMake the Embed HTML element taller.

How do you keep the Wix chatbot accurate?

When your hours, prices or services change, update the document in the bot's Knowledge tab. The live bot updates immediately; there's no need to edit or republish Wix. Each week, check the bot's knowledge gaps (questions your documents couldn't answer) and add the answers.

What should you put in a Wix chatbot's knowledge base?

Wix sites are common for local businesses, restaurants, studios and service providers. Upload or paste:

  • Services and prices, or price ranges.
  • Opening hours, location, parking and how to find you.
  • Booking process, deposits and cancellation policy.
  • FAQ page text.
  • Policies, such as returns for Wix Stores.

If you use Wix Bookings or Wix Stores, the bot doesn't connect to them directly. Write the booking or ordering steps in a short document, and include the link to your booking page so the bot can share it.

How do you announce the chatbot to customers?

Once it's live, mention it where customers already look: a line on your contact page ("Ask our assistant for instant answers"), your email newsletter, and your social profiles with the share link. On printed materials, use the QR code from the Embed & share tab.

Can you use more than one bot on a Wix site?

Yes, on plans with more than one bot. For example, a restaurant group could show a different bot on each location's page. Instead of the site-wide custom code, add each bot's snippet with page-specific custom code (choose the relevant pages rather than All pages), so each page loads only its own bot.

What should you set up next?

  • A fallback message with your phone or email, for questions the bot can't answer.
  • Lead capture on Pro and Agency, or during the free 14-day Pro trial, so visitors can request a booking or a callback: set up chatbot lead capture.
  • Starter questions (up to six) that match what your visitors ask most.

The free plan includes one bot and 100 hosted AI messages a month. See pricing for more messages and features. Using Squarespace instead? Follow the Squarespace guide.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I find Custom code in my Wix dashboard?

Wix only offers site-wide custom code on premium plans with a connected domain. On a free Wix site, you can still link to the bot's full-page share link.

Can I embed the chat on a single Wix page?

Yes. Use the Embed HTML (Embed a site / custom embed) element in the Wix Editor and paste the bot's iframe code or share link.

Does the chatbot work on Wix mobile sites?

Yes. The chat bubble is responsive and opens as a full-height panel on phones.

Will Wix's own chat clash with the bubble?

If you use Wix Chat as well, both launchers may sit in the bottom corner. Move ours to the left with data-position="left" or in the bot's settings.

Do I need to republish when I update the bot?

No. Knowledge and settings changes in InstantKnowledgeBot apply immediately. You only publish Wix once, after adding the code.
