> To add an AI chatbot to Squarespace, create a bot from your documents in InstantKnowledgeBot, then open Website, Pages, Custom code, Code injection (on older sites Settings, Advanced, Code Injection), paste the bot's snippet into the Footer field and save. For a single page, use a Code block with the bot's iframe code.

You can **add an AI chatbot to Squarespace** in about two minutes with code injection. The chatbot answers visitors using your own documents, such as services, prices, FAQ and policies, and appears as a chat bubble on every page. This guide covers the site-wide install, a chat inside one page, and troubleshooting.

## What do you need before you start?

- **A Squarespace site on a plan that supports custom code**, with permission to edit site settings.
- **Your documents** or text: FAQ, services, opening hours, policies, menus or price lists.
- **A free InstantKnowledgeBot account.** [Sign up](/signup) with your name and email.

## Step 1: How do you create your chatbot?

1. In InstantKnowledgeBot, click **New bot**.
2. Choose an industry **template** or start blank. Squarespace is popular with studios, restaurants, clinics and agencies, and each has a template; browse the [templates](/templates).
3. Upload files (PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown, CSV, HTML or JSON) or paste text. Copying the text from your existing Squarespace FAQ page is a fast way to start.
4. Name the bot, pick an accent color that matches your site, and write a welcome message.
5. Test it in the **Test** tab with your visitors' real questions.

## Step 2: How do you copy the snippet?

Open the bot's **Embed & share** tab, choose **Chat bubble**, and copy:

```html
<script src="https://instantknowledgebot.com/widget.js" data-bot="YOUR_BOT_ID" defer></script>
```

## Step 3: Where is code injection in Squarespace?

1. In Squarespace, open **Website → Pages**.
2. Scroll down and choose **Custom code → Code injection**. On older sites, it's under **Settings → Advanced → Code Injection**.
3. Paste the snippet into the **Footer** field.
4. Click **Save**.

Open your live site in a new tab and refresh. The bubble appears in the bottom corner of every page.

## How do you add the chat to one Squarespace page?

For an inline chat on a Help, FAQ or Contact page:

1. In InstantKnowledgeBot, copy the **Inline iframe** code from **Embed & share**.
2. In Squarespace, edit the page and add a **Code** block where the chat should go.
3. Paste the iframe code. Make sure the block's mode is set to HTML.
4. Save and publish the page.

To show the bubble on a single page instead of site-wide, use that page's own code injection: open the page's settings, go to **Advanced** (page header code injection), and paste the bubble snippet there. Remove it from the site-wide footer if it's already there, so it doesn't load twice.

Read more about inline embeds and share links in [embed a chatbot with an iframe or share link](/guides/embed-chatbot-iframe-share-link).

## How do you fix common Squarespace problems?

| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Code injection is missing | Your plan may not include custom code. Use the share link, or upgrade. |
| Bubble isn't visible while editing | Check the live site in a private window; scripts may not run in the editor. |
| Bubble appears twice | It's in both site-wide and page-level code injection. Keep one. |
| Bubble overlaps a cookie banner or another button | Move it left with `data-position="left"`, or set **Widget position** in the bot's settings. |

## How do you match the chatbot to your Squarespace design?

In the bot's **Settings** tab you can set:

- **Accent color**, to match your site's brand color.
- **Widget position**, left or right.
- **Welcome message** and up to six **starter questions**, which visitors can tap.
- **Bot name**, shown at the top of the chat.

On Pro and Agency, you can remove the "Powered by InstantKnowledgeBot" badge; Agency can show its own badge instead.

## What should you set up next?

- **A fallback message** with your email or phone number.
- **Lead capture** (Pro and Agency, and during the free 14-day Pro trial) for booking and enquiry requests: [set up chatbot lead capture](/guides/set-up-chatbot-lead-capture).
- **A weekly check of knowledge gaps** for the first month.

The free plan includes one bot and 100 hosted AI messages a month; compare plans on the [pricing page](/pricing). Using Wix or Webflow? See the [Wix guide](/guides/add-chatbot-to-wix) or the [Webflow guide](/guides/add-chatbot-to-webflow).

## What should you upload for a Squarespace site?

Squarespace sites are often for studios, restaurants, photographers, consultants and small shops. The documents that answer most questions are:

- **Services or products** with prices or price ranges.
- **Booking information**: how to book, cancellation policy and deposit rules.
- **Opening hours and location**, including parking and accessibility.
- **FAQ page** text.
- **Policies**: shipping and returns for shops, terms for services.

Import your existing Squarespace pages straight from your site's URL (a single page, the whole site or your sitemap), or copy their text, or save them as HTML or PDF and upload them. See [how to build a chatbot from your website URL](/guides/build-chatbot-from-website-url). Industry templates add a starter FAQ with placeholders if you need a head start.

## How do you test the chatbot before announcing it?

Open the live site in a private window and ask five questions your customers ask most, one question in another language, and one your documents don't cover. Check the answers against your pages, and confirm the fallback message gives your real contact details. Then tell your customers: a line in your newsletter or a social post ("Got a question? Ask our new assistant, bottom right of the site") helps people notice it.

## Can several team members manage the chatbot?

Yes. On Pro and Agency, invite teammates to your InstantKnowledgeBot account so they can update knowledge, read conversations and follow up leads. Their access to the bot is separate from their Squarespace permissions, so a colleague can keep the bot's answers current without being able to edit your website.

## Does the chatbot affect your Squarespace SEO?

No. The script loads with `defer`, after your page content, and the chat renders in its own isolated panel. Your pages' text, headings and metadata are unchanged, so search engines see the same site. Keep publishing your FAQ and service pages as normal; they help both search engines and AI assistants understand your business.

## Frequently asked questions

**Which Squarespace plans support code injection?**

Code injection is available on Squarespace plans that support custom code. If you don't see Code injection, check your plan, or link to the bot's share page instead.

**Can I add the chatbot to only one Squarespace page?**

Yes. Add a Code block to that page and paste the bot's iframe code, or use the page's own code injection settings for the bubble on that page only.

**Why doesn't the chat show in the Squarespace editor?**

Squarespace may not run custom scripts while you're editing. Check the live site in a separate browser tab or a private window.

**Does it work with Squarespace Commerce?**

Yes. The bubble appears on product and shop pages, where it can answer shipping, returns and sizing questions from your documents.

**Will updating the bot require changes in Squarespace?**

No. Edits to knowledge, greeting, color and starter questions apply instantly to the live bot.
